The Netley Marsh show was first held in 1971, when it was a one day show and called The Puffin, and local steam engine owners brought along their engines to entertain the visitors. The aim of the show was to raise funds to pay for urgent repairs to St Matthews Church. Following the success of that aim and the general enjoyment that was had by everyone who attended the show, it was decided that this should be an annual event.

The show has been going ever since, now a three day event with traction steam engines and a wide and varied range of vintage vehicles and engines, added to which there is always a wide range of entertainments for all ages.

The cars and commercial vehicles of the bygone era are restored to their former glory, the wonderful fire engines of the past century, each of which has its own history. Many of these vehicles have appeared in films and television program's. The military equipment always brings the stories of ”when I was in the Army” or “in the mob” be it the second world war, national service or other activities.

Once again the show will show one of the largest collections of motor cycle's, more than 175 machines are expected dating from the early part of the 20th century, to the demise of the British motor cycle industry in the 1970's. Names, such as Triumph, Norton, Sunbeam, B.S.A. and many not so well known, all in full working order and taking part in the arena parades. What memories that the sound of these machines bring back.

A large number of farm and industrial tractors through the ages form a large display of 80 vehicles, each having been built to meet a different task and as varied in purpose with the power they produce, The display of working exhibits of the past shows the time when plenty of man power was needed to assist the operating of the machines.

An area not to miss is the stationary engines, where a display of more than 40 machines of past years will be displayed. These engines formed the back bone of rural England, powering many farm and country houses. These machines drove water pump, electrical generators, farm and dairy equipment, and powered small workshops and factories. Many of these machines have a long and interesting history having been used on various well known estates around the country.

Entertainment includes The Waterside Bike and Motor Cycle Club showing their skills over a series of tricky obstacles,  Billy the Owl, the feathered actor who has performed in Harry potter films - come along and have your photo taken with him (at the Craft Marquee) -  Billy Coles & Sons fun fair for your pleasure and enjoyment, and childrens' entertainer, Winnie the Witch.
