Bag a Bra Day 2012

24.05.2012

Thursday 24th May.   Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, as well as many women in West Africa, need your discarded bras please. HIOWAA work with a recycling company called ‘Bag it up’ (www.bagitup.org.uk), who recycle donated clothes, which are processed and then sent to other countries for resale.  HIOWAA receives payment in relation to the weight of clothing donated, which is then used to help maintain the service of the air ambulance across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.     Recycling of bras is slightly different, as most of the donated bras are shipped to West Africa for resale at affordable prices by street traders.     Being able to wear a bra gives women prestige, shows they have money, and means men are less likely to assault them, which are certainly very emotive reasons to dig into the bra drawer to find an unwanted  bra or two!.

If you would like a ‘bag-a-bra’ collecting bag or want to know where your nearest ‘Bag-it-up’ recycling bank is situated, or just require further information about this appeal, then please contact Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance at the address below.  Thank you for your support.

02.12.2012

Sunday 2nd December 2012.  Byron Road, New Milton.  Once again the fantastic residents of Byron Road have created a wonderland of Christmas lights in their road.   The switch on is at 6pm and Santa is arriving  a little before this, so come early for a good view.  Katie Martin of BBC Radio Solent is switching the lights on and she will be telling the community about the lights and the charity on air!  A great evening for all the family.
